Its a muggy Friday evening on the commute home from central London and I pick up the Evening Standard magazine. I slowly flick through the pages disinterested until I arrive at the feature on the Footsteps Academy Trust in Wood Green. It details the amazing work that Chris Hall and his team are doing with students with special educational needs and those with permanent exclusions on record. The team have achieved some amazing results helping students progress onto FE or employment with a success rate of 90%. 'The Footsteps Academy has been operating for 7 years. The split-site academy has established a new specialist venue each year. After initially offering places at the Footsteps Football Academy in 2010, we expanded our vocational study facilities in September 2011 by taking premises in Tottenham High Road, followed in September 2012 by establishing facilities within the New River Sports Centre on White Hart Lane.Establishment of the New River academy has proved extremely successful. Each centre delivers a broad range of GCSE, BTEC and Functional Skills qualifications. These are combined with sporting and vocational activities, many of which lead to further qualifications. All facilities across both centres are available to all students. The above aspects of the Footsteps delivery are blended with the Footsteps ethos to create an environment that is not only enjoyable but also conducive to excellent performance and positive outcomes.
